The World Stopped Turning

Today marks the tenth anniversary of the terrorist attack that changed our country forever. I was browsing through the news earlier this evening and the article (pictured above) caught my attention. It's amazing to see our country come together as one to remember the fallen victims. You may be wondering how this relates to leadership, but 9/11 is a perfect example of when strong and ethical leaders prevailed despite overwhelming tragedy.  Former President George W. Bush exemplified this by saying, "A great people has been moved to defend a great nation. Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of America. These acts shatter steel, but they cannot dent the steel of American resolve. America was targeted for attack because we're the brightest beacon for freedom and opportunity in the world. And no one will keep that light from shining." Everything stated in Bush's address to the nation defines what it is to be a leader. Overcoming tragedy and handling crisis in a calm way defines leadership.  The way America arose in the aftermath of 9/11 is not something that comes along often. Reading the former president's national address and CNN's article on the memorial enforces the opportunities we have as Americans and as leaders to work together collaboratively to make a difference in the lives of others.

Thanks & Gig'Em!
